For the Media Tim Asher Bio
 |
Tim Asher was the logical choice as Executive Director for the Missouri Civil Rights Initiative (MoCRI) as a result of a relationship forged with the American Civil Rights Institute (ACRI) beginning in late 2004. Asher first contacted the ACRI regarding the legality of Diversity Scholarships at North Central Missouri College where he served as Director of Admissions. This initial meeting led him to ask the American Civil Rights Coalition for assistance in passing a civil rights initiative in Missouri.
Prior to his service with the MoCRI, Asher worked with inner city at-risk youth in Kansas City as Boys Coordinator for The KEY Program (Keep Encouraging Youth) administered by The Salvation Army. The KEY Program served to support and mentor middle and high school age students by providing a variety of activities and experiences for personal enrichment. Before his time with The Salvation Army, Asher worked in defense contracting as a cost analyst with McDonnell Douglas Missile Systems Company in Florida. While attending college, he volunteered in a number of programs benefiting minority youth, including some in the Cabrini Green projects of downtown Chicago.
A graduate of Odessa High School in Missouri, Asher went on to earn a degree in Theology from Moody Bible Institute and later obtained his MBA from William Woods University. In addition to serving as the MoCRI executive director, Asher was recently appointed by the United States Commission on Civil Rights to serve on their Missouri State Advisory Committee.
